“Reporters without Borders”: Lina Chawaf Wins Annual Press Freedom Prize

Lina Chawaf, Executive Director of Rozana Radio, won the 2018 Reporters without Borders’ press freedom award.

“Reporters without Borders” awarded its press freedom prize to Chawaf in recognition of her among distinguished journalists and media figures and to acknowledge her struggle to defend and encourage the freedom of press.

The Executive Director will receive the Reporters without Borders’ award at a ceremony to be held on May 3 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Lina Chawaf said about her winning this year’s award that this means a lot to her as the prize will boost her in keeping up her work, which she sees as the duty of everyone who survived (in Syria) to continue his work to convey the voice of Syrian youth, which has been neglected and obscured.
Reporters without Borders said that Chawaf had gone through various hardships with Rozana Radio team in order to continue the free and independent media work in the time of the revolutions and to provide important media reports by cooperating with correspondents distributed in areas controlled by opposition forces and the regime.

The organization added that in light of the absence of press freedom in the country, currently plagued by crises, the freedom of press work is at a greater risk than ever before.

It is noted that “Reporters without Borders” has established the annual Press Freedom Award since 2003. The organization awards its annual prizes in conjunction with World Press Freedom Day.
